C. elegans facility

C. elegans facility

Assistance with all aspects of work on the nematode model organism as well as hydra, incl. focus on CRISPR/cas tools

Since the 1960s, the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans has been used as model organisms for the investigation of a variety of biological processes. As a transparent, multi-cellular, eukaryotic organism, C. elegans not only facilitates the study of cellular differentiation and other developmental processes, it is also an excellent genetic model system. At the Friedrich Miescher Institute, groups investigating epigenetics and signaling work with C. elegans.

The C. elegans facility assists with all aspects of work on this nematode model organism. The facility

  • assists groups working primarily on Caenorhabditis elegans with genetic screens, nematode techniques, and reagents.
  • develops and implements new methods.
  • acts as an entry point for all FMI investigators wishing to use C. elegans in any aspect of their research.
